During the coming months, we’ll be highlighting our fighters in training for the upcoming Belles of the Brawl VI in Boston on October 10th. They’ve committed to four months of fundraising and training in preparation to get in the ring and literally fight for a cure. Whether they've had first hand experience, their father has passed or their friend has put up a victory against the disease – they’ve all got a story to tell and they’ve all got a reason to fight. Below you’ll hear from Kiley Horne, fighting out of TKO Boxfit.
Where are you from?
Scituate, MA
Where’d you go to college?
Merrimack College
Did you play any sports growing up?
Soccer, basketball, tennis and lacrosse!
What do you do for work?
I am a high school science teacher!
Why boxing? Did you ever picture yourself fighting?
I’ve always used boxing as an outlet to let off some steam... as a high school teacher I have a lot of occasions for it. :)
Why on earth did you sign up to fight??
This is my marathon! I have always wanted to do something for a cause, put myself out there and do some good at the same time, but man do I hate running... so this is my marathon!
You’re stepping in the ring to literally fight for a cure – Where are you drawing your inspiration from? How has cancer affected you?
I’m sick of watching the people I love and the people I surround myself with struggle with this terrible disease. Whether it’s you, someone you love or someone you just met, everyone has had some experience with cancer and it’s just got to stop.
What is going to be the most difficult thing to give up during your training? (beer, cheeseburgers, time spent watching TV?)
Bourbon and chicken wings!
When you’re not throwing punches and training -- what other hobbies/interests do you have?
Boating, fishing and beaching at the moment... snowboarding during the cold months.
Who do you think is the most excited to watch you get punched in the face come fight night?
If my students were old enough I’m sure they would love it... but other than that.. Maybe my siblings.
Be sure to check out her fundraising page and wish her luck! Best of luck, Kiley!
